Family Prayers

Want to say some prayers at home but not sure which to choose?  Why not try some of the prayers we use in school:

Our Father

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name;
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

The Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace! the Lord is with thee;
blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

The Glory Be

Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now,
and ever shall be,
world without end.

Amen.

The Eternal Rest

Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord,
And let perpetual light shine upon them.
May they rest in peace.
Amen.

Act of Faith

My God, I believe in you
and in all that your Holy Church teaches,
because you are the very truth itself
and can neither deceive nor be deceived.
Amen.

Act of Hope

My God, I hope and trust in you,
for grace and for glory,
because you are infinitely good,
all powerful and faithful to your promises.
Amen.

Act of Charity

My God, I love you with my whole heart
and above all things,
because you are infinitely good and perfect.
Teach me to love you daily more and more
and for your sake to love my neighbour as myself.
Amen.

Act of Contrition

O my God, because you are so good,
I am very sorry that I have sinned against you
and by the help of your grace,
I will not sin again.
Amen.

School Grace Before Meals

Bless us O Lord as we sit together,

Bless the food we eat today,

Bless the hands that made the food,

Bless us O God.

Amen.

School Grace After Meals

Thank you God for the food we have eaten,

Thank you God for all our friends,

Thank you God for everything,

Thank you God.

Amen.

Prayers for the End of the Day

God our Father, I've come to say:

"Thank you for Your love today,

Thank you for my family,

And all the friends you give to me.

Guard me in the dark of night,

And in the morning send Your light.

Amen."

At the end of the day,

I kneel and say,

"Thank You God for a lovely day.

I've tried to be good,

For I know that I should."

That's my prayer at the end of the day.

Amen.

Thank you God for a lovely day.

Thank you for my work and play.

Thank you for my friends at school.

Thank you God for everything.

Amen.

The Guardian Angel Prayer

O Angel of God, my guardian dear,
to whom His love
entrusts me here,
ever this day (or night)
be at my side
to light and guard,
to rule and guide.

Amen.

The De Profundis (Out of the Depths)

Out of the depths I have cried to Thee, O Lord; Lord hear my voice.

Let Thy ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication.

If Thou, O Lord, wilt mark iniquities, Lord, who shall stand it?

For with Thee there is merciful forgiveness, and by reason of Thy law, I have waited for Thee, O Lord.

My soul has relied on His word, my soul hath hoped in the Lord.

From the morning watch even until night, let Israel hope in the Lord.

Because with the Lord there is mercy; and with Him plentiful redemption.

And He shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,

that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection,

implored thy help,

or sought thine intercession was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother;

to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful.

O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.

Amen.

The Angelus

V: The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.

R: And she conceived of the Holy Ghost.

All: Hail Mary, full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and in the hour of our death.

V: Behold the handmaid of the Lord.

R: Be it done unto me according to thy word.

All: Hail Mary, full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and in the hour of our death.

V: And the Word was made Flesh.

R: And dwelt among us.

All: Hail Mary, full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and in the hour of our death.

V: Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.

R: That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

V: Let us pray. Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that, we to whom the Incarnation of Christ, Thy Son, was made known by the message of an Angel, may by His Passion and Cross, be brought to the glory of His Resurrection. Through the same Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.

Prayer to Saint Joseph

To thee, O Blessed Joseph, we have recourse in our tribulations, and while imploring the aid of thy most holy Spouse, we confidently invoke thy patronage also.

By that love which united thee to the Immaculate Virgin, Mother of God, and by the fatherly affection with which thou didst embrace the Infant Jesus, we humbly beseech thee graciously to regard the inheritance which Jesus Christ purchased with His Blood and to help us in our necessities, by thy powerful intercession.

Protect, O most provident Guardian of the Holy Family, the chosen children of Jesus Christ; ward off from us, O most loving Father, all taint of error and corruption; graciously assist us from Heaven, O most power protector, in our struggle with the powers of darkness; and as thou didst once rescue the Child Jesus from imminent peril to His life, so now defend the Holy Church of God from the snares of her enemies and from all adversity.

Shield each one of us with thy unceasing patronage that, imitating thy example and sported by thy aid, we may be enabled to live a good life, die a holy death, and secure everlasting happiness in Heaven.

Amen.

The Magnificat

My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior.

For He hath regarded the humility of His handmaiden.

For behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

For He that is mighty hath done great things to me, and holy is His Name.

And His Mercy is from generation unto generations upon them that fear Him.

He hath shewed might in His arm, He hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart.

He hath put down the mighty from their seat, and hath exalted the humble.

He hath filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He hath sent empty away.

He hath received Israel, His servant, being mindful of His mercy.

As He spoke to our Fathers, Abraham and His seed forever.

Prayer to Saint Joseph the Worker

Glorious St. Joseph,

Model of all who are devoted to toil,

Obtain for me the grace to toil

In the spirit of penance,

In order thereby to atone

For my many sins;

To toil conscientiously,

Putting devotion to duty

Before my own inclinations;

To labour with thankfulness and joy,

Deeming it an honour

To employ and to develop by my labour

The gifts I have received from Almighty God;

To work with order,

Peace, moderation and patience,

Without ever shrinking

From weariness and difficulties;

To work, above all,

With a pure intention

And with detachment from ourselves,

Having always before my eyes

The hour of death

And the accounting

Which I must then render

Of time ill-spent,

Of talents unemployed,

Of good undone

And of empty pride in success,

Which is so fatal to the work of God.

All for Jesus,

All through Mary,

All in imitation of you,

O Patriarch Joseph!

This shall be my motto

In life and in death.

Amen.

Novena to Saint Joseph's

O Saint Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, I place in you all my interests and desires.

O Saint Joseph, assist me by your powerful intercession and obtain for me from your Divine Son all spiritual blessings through Jesus Christ, Our Lord; so that having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers.

O Saint Joseph, I never weary contemplating you and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart.

Press Him in my name and kiss His fine head for me, and ask Him to return the Kiss when I draw my dying breath, Amen.

O Saint Joseph, hear my prayers and obtain my petitions.

O Saint Joseph, pray for me. (mention your intention)
